Spring 2024 Judicial Externship with the California Court of Appeal
Were you considering a judicial externship, but were not sure how to apply? Or were intimidated by the process? Or were worried about your GPA? If so -- consider applying to the UC Law SF's Court of Appeal Judicial Externship Program. We have established a connection between UC Law SF and the Court of Appeal chambers where the focus of the application is on eagerness for the experience and willingness to receive and implement feedback, not on grades.
In this program students are paired with a California Court of Appeal chambers. Students will work on civil and criminal appeals under the supervision of career clerks and a Court of Appeal Justice. Students in the program also participate in a concurrent class that offers additional writing and peer support—Judicial Opinion Writing Seminar (2-units), taught by Prof. Adrienne Rogers. Professor Rogers is the ideal person to teach this course as she has previously taught LRW and ApAdd at UC Law, and currently is the managing attorney (i.e. clerk) at the Court of Appeal. She is familiar with the expectations of the Court generally and of specific chambers.
The program/class is intentionally small – six students will be placed in chambers this coming Spring. Depending on chambers, students will work between 24 to 32 hours a week in chambers (for 6-8 fieldwork credits).
For more information please check out the attached application and MyHastings. The priority deadline for applications is 5 pm on Sunday, October 15, 2023.

University of California Office of General Counsel 2024 Health Affairs, Privacy and Data Protection Summer Clerkship
Office of the General Counsel at the University of California Office of the President offers a summer clerkship program to provide educational and work experience opportunities to law students within and outside of the UC system. Summer clerks volunteer full-time for 10 weeks during the summer months, work on a broad range of substantive legal areas, and also learn first-hand the experience of being a higher education in-house counsel. Summer clerks work on active matters that introduce them to the practice and substance of the law as well as research and writing projects which are generally short, focused, and frequently involve novel or complicated issues. UC Legal attorneys will explain how projects fit into overall legal strategy, invite summer clerks to interesting opportunities such as moot sessions, provide substantive feedback on work product, and submit projects that involve attendance at meetings, hearings and negotiations and interaction with clients.
